WELCOME TO SUMMIT ACADEMY

A place where students are known, understood, and given the support they need to grow.

A Different Path to School Success

Sometimes, despite everyone’s best efforts, a student needs something different.

Summit Academy, in partnership with Educational Service Unit 9 (ESU 9), provides a therapeutic, skills-based educational program for K–8 students who need more intensive support than a traditional school setting can provide.

At Summit, we bring education, behavioral science, and therapeutic support together. Students continue making academic progress while building the communication, regulation, social, executive functioning, and life skills they need to be successful—not just at Summit, but wherever they go next.

Every student’s program is individualized. Summit, ESU 9, families, and the student’s home school district work together to understand what the student needs, build on their strengths, and create meaningful opportunities for growth.

We Never Lose Sight of the Goal

Summit is not intended to replace a student’s home school.

From Day One, we are preparing students for what comes next.

For many students, that means building the skills, confidence, and independence needed to successfully return to their home school and participate in the least restrictive educational environment appropriate for them. Reintegration planning begins at admission and is guided by student progress, ongoing data, and collaboration with the student’s IEP team. This is consistent with Summit’s existing reintegration model and NDE’s guidance that contracted programs support students as they work toward returning to their public-school educational environment.

Summit Academy is an approved service provider through the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE). Through our partnership with ESU 9, students receive certified special education instruction and educational oversight while Summit provides the intensive behavioral, therapeutic, and skill-building supports that make our model different.

Could Summit Be the Right Fit?

Students are referred to Summit through their home school district and IEP team. If a family believes Summit may be a good fit, we encourage them to begin the conversation with their child’s school district.

From there, the family, district, ESU 9, and Summit work together to understand the student’s needs, explore whether Summit is an appropriate option, and determine the supports necessary for success.

Because sometimes students don’t need more of the same. They need something different.
